Scotty Cranmer recently posted a video talking about why he’s closing his bike shop, SC Bicycles after 18 years. This is super sad news to the BMX community in NJ and the tri state area being one of the few bike shops that really represent for BMX in the northeast. The shop will be closing by the end of this month, September 2025 and Scotty would like everyone to come out and buy something from the shop to help his family get rid of all the inventory.
Unfortunately, the owners of the property that the store is on put it on the market. Scotty and his family were going to try to purchase the property, but it would’ve been too expensive to purchase. And the shop wouldn’t be able to make the revenue to keep its doors open for long especially in the slow winter months.
After 18 years the time has come to close our family ran Bike Shop in Howell, NJ.. This is very sad but also beautiful in the sense that we have had this amazing experience of owning and operating this dream business of ours but times are changing and we can no longer keep this business going. Thank you all for the support over the years and thank you for letting us live our dream with your help. Please help us get rid of our inventory by getting the best possible deals on bikes and bike parts. ~Scotty Cranmer
If you’re in New Jersey this month, visit SC Bicycles or come to their website and pick up some goodies www.scbicycles.com
Is CJ BMX Shutting Down Too?
We knew the clock was ticking on CJ BMX track, which is located right behind the store. It was actually rumored to be closing down a couple years ago. In the video Scotty didn’t mention the track at all, but my guess was the track is gonna have the same fate as the store. But I checked the CJ BMX Facebook page, and they made a special update about it.
We’d like to wish SC Action Sports and the Cranmer family well as they close the shop after 18 years. The shop has been part of the local BMX scene for a long time, and many riders have memories connected to it. That said, we want to clear up any confusion — the shop closing does not affect CJBMX.
CJBMX is open and racing through December 15th this season, and we can’t wait to see everyone at the gate!

Looking ahead: We’ll keep everyone posted about the 2026 season as soon as details are finalized.Thank you to our riders, families, and volunteers for keeping the BMX spirit alive here at CJBMX. Let’s finish the season strong together! ~CJ BMX
That’s awesome that the track will still be open, but it will feel strange to not be able to walk into the bike shop on race day. Going to the shop was part of the fun and convenience of racing at CJ BMX. I have to try and make back out there before the store closes.
