Was in contention for the ABA national cruiser title in 2004. scored all but one of my wins on this frame. had i won the 2004 grands main in 31-35 would have scored the national cruiser title. finished 4th in the main for a year ending NAG 3 nat 33. turned up to vet in 2005 and following multiple crashed from others’ misdoings, i havent raced since the later half of that year.

I always excelled on cruiser. especially this cruiser. felt right at home on cruiser even in 1987 when i was a 15 year old texan and won the state title on both bikes.

The first iteration of this frame as a complete race bike was found through a friend who was a wheat ridge cyclery employee in denver while pursuing his chemistry doctorate. the Spooky as his had been hanging in the rafters in the back of the shop for a few years. the primary reason he bought it was to support the brand culture and presence in the industry. they are still around but not in bmx.

When my friend learned i was returning to cruiser racing in 2002 and watched me ride it, he sold it to me on the spot. was/is one of those frames for me that is an extension of my own body mechanics…the first sprint happened like magic. frame was fabricated by Frank The Welder who is a lifetime industry contributor to the success of off road cycling since off road cycling met modern technology.

Anyway. at 51 im as healthy as ever if not healthier than ever. maybe not as brute physical strength as in 2004, but surely all points healthier.the worlds are coming to the united states in 2024… the very first and only “year of the bmx cruiser” any of us will ever live to see. i was born in pinehurst, NC. 111 miles from rock hill bmx. im planning to win the world championships of bmx in the challenge 50+ cruiser class at what would be my local track if i still lived where i was born. winning the world championships on this bike will make me a happy human.
