Saya Sakakibara Quit BMX, Then Became World Cup champion

Big congrats to Saya Sakakibara for overcoming all odds to win the 2023 UCI BMX World Cup! Australian Broadcasting Corporation recently did a nice interview with her about her big come back.

A year after almost quitting the sport of BMX racing due to lingering concussion symptoms and injuries, Australia’s Saya Sakakibara went on to win the World Cup in the final race at the 2023 UCI BMX Racing World Cup in Argentina.

Sakakibara says a new outlook on life, the inspiration from her brother, Kai, and a new focus on giving it ‘one more shot’ has led her to the ultimate success in 2023.

And after growing up and being unable to see the best of the best at the best at the Australian national championships, the 24-year-old now wants to give back to Aussie kids who look up to their role models on the track.
