Bike Of The Day, John’s HARO Citizen “Brooke Crain” Pro XL

haro citizen pink brooke crain

Today’s Bike Of The Day is a Haro Citizen Brooke Crain Pro XL ridden by John Pullman. The matte pink and black colorway of this build looks perfect. I also like the Promax wheels and cranks. In the section below, John tells us an awesome story about how you returned back to BMX racing after a 37 year hiatus.

I raced in the late 70s/early 80s before flatland took hold and then returned to the track in July 2019 after a visit to Akron BMX during the Old Fools weekend where the track, the volunteers and atmosphere rekindled that desire to race after 37+ year hiatus.  My friend and soon-to-be-competitor, Danny Sirkin (owner of Solon Bicycle – Solon, Ohio) offered to join me and in 3 days we were on identical HARO Racelites.  We were hooked and could not express our gratitude enough to those at the track and the racers for making the experience wonderful.

Not too long thereafter, we moved into the world of carbon with the Citizen and we have not stopped honing our builds.  Since starting back in 2017, the team of three (with Brian Chapdelaine) blossomed into a full-fledged racing team with over a dozen teammates of varying ages.  The Solon Bicycle Race Team is proudly sponsored by Solon Bicycle and HYOH (Hike Your Own Hike) with support from HARO and Skratch brands.  It’s been a blast and we cannot wait to hit the track once given the clearance!

Build Inspiration:

Loved the idea of a pink frame (throwback to early flatland days 86/87 when GT had those day-glo colors!  Love the HARO Citizen frame and paired with the Avian Versus forks, made it even nicer.  The JW parts are made in Ohio by JW Bicycle Products – the level of craftsmanship and detail in all of his work is impeccable.  The American accents to the stem are stellar!  Besides, it is awesome to support a local business.  The Profile hubs cannot be missed ANYWHERE!  People hear you coming from a mile away – love that buzz!  Though you do not sit much, the Tangent Carve seat has just the right amount of cushion for this ol’ timer.  With some controversy surrounding pedals these days, I am very happy that Danny pointed me in the direction of the iSSi Thump pedal – you pair them with some trusty Vans and your feet are planted!

Teammates helped with honing this build – Danny with the insight into pairing the right parts and Andy Pauken with the guru-esque knowledge of gearing and materials.  I was always as fan of donuts, so I had to add some flair with them and the pink valve caps.  This build is incredible and a joy to pedal around the neighborhood, Ray’s Mountain Bike Park and most definitely, the track.
