Huffy Bicycles and Carley Kane recently dropped a few photos of the brand’s pro production pre BMX racing frame and it features some really nice changes from the prototypes! The first major change is the down tube with it’s hydroformed shaping.

I really like how the lower part of the downtube expands into a big gusset to add a lot of stiffness to the drive train area. It actually looks like the down tube and the seat tube are all one piece giving the frame a carbon look. But I do see weld points on the head tube, chainstay and seat tube, unless my eyes are playing tricks on me.

It looks like this frame will also be using the big T47 Bottom Bracket for added strength and stiffness. The bigger size also gives you a smoother spinning drivetrain. This is the same bottom bracket that’s used on the prototype frames. The chain stay features a diamond shaped tapered tubing which should really stiffen things up. It should transfer more of your power to that rear wheel, especially out the gate. Enclosed dropouts are Huffy choice. The stylish dropouts look like they have adaptors that can fit 10mm or 20mm axles. Plus the dropouts feature internal chain tensioners inspired by Huffy’s classic Enigma race frame.
And before you say the seatstays are a copy of this frame of that frame. Just remember Huffy has deep roots in BMX. And their really early frames had the top tube areh, down tube bend and seat stay bend on them. So who’s to say they didn’t pull their inspiration from their long list of frames from the past.
Frame Name
It looks like the name of this model is called the PE V3. I’m Not sure what that stands for. This frame is Huffy’s 3rd legit pro frame design since signing Carley Kane. So I had a few wild guesses, “PrototypE V3”. Or Maybe the “E” represents the “E” in pre? “Pre Production V3”? lol!! I guess we’ll find out soon enough. B ut until then, let me know what your guess is.

So What About The Prototypes?
Up until now, the Huffy team have been teasing us with the prototype frames. Also up until now the team has been competing the whole season with them and getting podium finishes. So the question is, what will happen with the prototype designs? Is Huffy planning to do a roll out similar to Mongoose? Will they have a “pro” complete line and a Elite Pro line? Also, will there actually be a line of completes with either one of the designs? And lastly, will there be mini, jr and expert sizes coming? I guess only time will tell but I’ll keep you posted.
