Roy Washington Jr is back again with another Bike Of The Day treat! This time he submitted his 2014 era Kink Mud Runner and it’s looking fresh! I love the clean look of this build, and the seat is a nice offset to compliment the rest of the bike’s color scheme. Roy built up a really nice ride, big up!! My inspiration for this build first starts with David Long who is 1/4 of my BMX crew here in sunny Fayetteville/Fort Bragg, North Carolina. The wrong size trail frame, for David, turns out to be perfect for me. Another inspiration for this build is definitely the man Chris Doyle, who use to live and trail ride in Raleigh, NC and one of my heroes when learning to dirt jump way back when at 401 trails. Before the my USN call to duty. Ironically, I can remember graduating US NAVY Corpsman Field-Medical School at Camp Pendleton, California and driving across the highway to the “KING of Dirt” Contest on Oceanside Beach. So many riders were at this contest to include Shawn Butler, Fuzzy, Corey Nastasio, & Mike Aitken to name a few. I had my USN Sailor Craker-Jack graduation whites on when I watched the KING of Dirt contest in amazement. I was also amazed that Chris Doyle recognized me that day and explained that he had a house in Erie, PA and was thinking of buying a house in California from all the television coverage he was getting.
In North Carolina you’ll see some legends of our BMX sport that still continue to inspire through video or invite at the trails. NC produces “Dope riders and Dope riding spots that I continue to see. Some motivators for me and maybe for you here in North Carolina include: Vince Imel, Dick Carling “when he’s riding”, Leigh Ramsdale, EASTERNS’ Robby Taylor, EASTERNS Luke Sanford, Eric Williams, MAYHEM BMX’s Darand Ross, MAYHEM’s Nation team member Justin Griffin, Ryan Nyquist, Jared Waylan, John Rogers, Shawn Blake, CULT’s Dan Foley, Omar Bohan, Steven Walker, & David Long to name a few.
These North Carolina riders motivate me to ride, race and just have fun on my BMX! ~Roy Washington Jr
