Not Your Typical Seat Stay On This Sunn BMX Prototype

French BMX racing pro Eddy Clerte posted some teaser photos of a new Sunn prototype frame he’s been testing out. Sunn is known for making elite level aluminum BMX frames. But this time it looks like they went carbon!

Two distinctive features that make this bike stick out are the seat tube and the seat stay. The seat tube diameter looks like it it might be tear drop shape with the thin side facing towards the front of the frame and the round side facing the rear. I like the low-key integrated seat post clamp. Pretty cool.

The super low profile seat stay is so low that the chain actually wraps around it than through it. That opens the door to convert this frame into a belt drive. With the chain now sitting outside the frame, you can run bigger size chain rings and not worry about chain slap on the frame. But the drawback is you won’t be able to run your gear ratio too small.

Enclosed dropouts and integrated chain tensioning look simple and affective. I don’t see any v-brake mounts, so the frame must be disc only. These days disc only elite BMX race frames are pretty much the standard.

You know I’m open to anything new and different in BMX so I’m digging this frame. I wonder what the official name of it will be? Will they keep “The Royal” series going? I’m looking forward to finding out.

Below is a clip of Eddy Getting busy on the bike.
