Inspiration came from being a mechanic and love seeing the mechanics of machines and I thought welds and welds marks behind the clear powder coating were a cool visual of the bikes construction.
Some of the parts are inspired by my mountain bike riding, the Wolftooth components and the HOPE pedals are well known in the MTB community. DT SWISS is also known in the MTB and road riding worlds, so I added that adapter that adapts the 6 bolt rotor to a centerlock hub. I use AVID BB-7 brakes on a couple of MTB’s and prefer these over hydro for ease to set up and serviceability.
I love the JW Machine works USA built stem and chain tugs, outstanding craftmanship. I tried to get a lot of USA built parts in the initial build and have a good amount, and more will be added to the bike in time. I also added a personal touch with my last name etched in the grip lock-rings…..just because! 🙂
I wanted a steel frame for nostalgic reasons as I rode a steel Mongoose and Schwinn Predator as a kid back in the 1980’s, the carbon wheels as a nod to the current technology and to my career in the aerospace industry. ~John Farmer
