Curtis Sherrod, the mastermind behind such events like Rapacon, DjCon, Rapathon and Singers Lounge is doing another DJ-Con event up in Mt. Vernon! This time we’ll be celebrating the impact of house music on HipHop!! Details below!

Saturday, September 8th

12 noon to 6pm

Councilman Andre Wallace and RapaCon present DJ-Con: The Impact Of House Music On Hip Hop Saturday, September 8th, from noon to 6pm, at 28 East 1st St. Mount Vernon, N.Y. The event celebrates the hybrid of Strictly Rhythm Beats and hip-hop breaks, responsible for some of the funkiest moments under the mirror ball from the1980s to today.

“Hip-hop and house are both from the same canon of black culture, but they come from different places,” said Curtis Sherrod, founder of Rap-a-Con. “When they meet they prosper, and at DJ-Con: The Impact Of House Music On Hip Hop the styles will collide for that always special vibe.” Throughout the day multiple DJ-Con DJ’s will spin as part of a non-stop cipher-style presentation RapaCon and DJ Con are known for. The rundown is as follows:

12:30pm – 1:30pm Financial literacy expert Jeff Broome and guests will provide tips on budgeting, saving, improving credit and home ownership to a house beat. Location 3rd floor suite.

2pm – 3pm Jeff Broome and his House DJ associates discuss the culture of House Music. Location 3rd floor suite.

1pm – 3pm DJ Stormin’ Norman of “Sundae Sermon” fame will takeover a two-hour block of time, to transport listeners to house heaven. Location outside on 1st street.

3:30pm DJs The Legendary Chris Washington and Stormin’ Norman will join author, documentarian and Billboard magazine’s first rap editor Havelock Nelson in a conversation exploring classic hip-house tracks everyone needs to hear. Location 3rd floor suite.

4pm: DJ Baron of Brothers Disco fame and Lefty Wilkins from Money Makin’ Mob will be honored. And, for the first time ever, The Collins Brothers Award will be presented to a surprise Mount Vernon native doing positive work.

5pm The Battle Of The Sound Systems is back! This year: The Mighty Mighty Super Sasquatch featuring Dj Break Out & Baron versus DJ Big Tone and GrandWizard Shake, BassLine Ent!

“This annual event is something that the Hip Hop Community and the City of Mount Vernon have come to look forward to,” says Wallace. “It really has set a standard for grassroots, multigenerational community events.”
