Terry Tenette Custom Frame. Wants To Race Mens BMX Elite At 51

Terry Tenette custom bmx frame

BMX Hall Of Fame Inductee Terry Tenette recently revealed his new, custom prototype BMX frame. The prototype frame is built by a former GT engineer welder that Built his 1986 GT prototype “Mr.T” model. You know Mr.T always liked his bike setup huge but check this out. His rear chain stay is 16.5inches! We know it’s not as long as Nic Long’s chain stay but it’s far from the average race chainstay length of 14″-15.5″. Terry is also running 46/16 gear ratio with 190mm cranks and of course flat pedals!! Dang!!

Terry is currently racing 51&Over expert and won his main at the USABMX Summer Nationals by plenty bike lengths. But here’s the big story, Terry is going to work at getting himself to a level to compete in the Elite Men’s class! His goal is to qualify for the main event in a Men’s Elite race. At 51 years old, Terry looks just as in shape as he did when he was 19. But things have changed dramatically in BMX racing since Terry retired. It’ll definitely be an uphill battle but we so want to see him achieve this goal. Terry says this will be the “greatest come back story in BMX history” and if he pulls it off, it most definitely will.

“Trying to give myself something to remember in my elderly years that are coming sooner than not as most don’t want to admit…” ~Terry Tenette

Derek Betcher of Speedco asked Terry when his first race back in Elite is. Terry responded “Right now it just starts with a dream LOL”

We’re looking forward to how this story develops.

UPDATE!!!! Since we posted this article this morning and spread it around social media, the BMX community has been buzzing about it. There was lots of speculation on the subject. Terry had this to say just to make things clear about his goals

“To clear up any confusion copy paste. A man’s got to have a goal in life to keep his testosterone running strong get eaten by the lion or eat the lion you decide .Yes there is no domestic Pro class so read this clear the goal is to make the main at most likely a tangent Pro-Am that generally has the top Elite Riders attending and yes if I can make the main at 51 years old at quot a tangent Pro-Am I’ve accomplished my goal we’re not talking the Grand Nationals we’re not talking the worlds and I’m definitely not trying to win any pro title I will give myself a couple opportunities to make a tangent Pro-Am main Event that has generally four to six top Elite riders in it and if I make that main I’ve accomplished my goal read this as many times as you need too.” ~Terry Tenette
